Jesu Cristes Milde ModerThis ethereal Easter programme presents a selection of English medieval songs telling the story of Christ and his mother, the Virgin Mary. We have gathered together a variety of works from 13th-15th century English manuscripts that portray many aspects of their lives; from Gabriel’s Greeting and Mary’s virginity to the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus. During the middle ages, these topics occured very often in English song. Mary was central to spiritual life, being turned into a goddess-like figure. |
